NP-153E-XL Features

Dual-Track Board Loading

The double-track conveyor system achieves zero board loading time by transferring boards to the worktables in stages. This is accomplished by using programmable offsets to align the servo-driven in- and out-shuttles with the worktable and adjacent machines' conveyors. This flexible engineering ensures smooth integration of NP-153E-XL into any production line. In addition, this dual track design, combined with the twin placing stations, enhances non-stop production.

Placing System

Each head holds 16 nozzles, offering increased picking/placing capacity. A carousel-type rotation method advances the nozzles sequentially around each placing head for nozzle selection and part placement. Before production, the 16 nozzle heads (A to P) cycle forward successively; when a nozzle arrives at the pickup position, it selects the appropriate nozzle from the nozzle station. Once nozzle selection is completed, the placing head moves to the device supply unit where it rotates again to allow each nozzle to pick a part. Vision inspection occurs as the placing head transfers the parts to the board. Similar to pickup, part placement is performed by cycling the nozzles around the placing head, allowing each nozzle to place its part in succession.

The placing system's design maximizes throughput per square foot and guarantees continuous operation. The placing heads are mounted on XY-gantry robots, allowing the placing heads to run on the same axis. Furthermore, each placing head is installed at an angle to reduce movement along the Z-axis. This positioning achieves faster cycle times and minimizes the NP-153E-XL's footprint.

A single nozzle station holds up to 48 nozzles. Each placing head selects nozzles from its nozzle station according to program requirements or to avoid the use of damaged nozzles. When needed, the entire nozzle tray can be removed and a new tray can be slid into position. This batch nozzle changeover reduces downtime.

Vision Inspection System

The NP-153E-XL's vision processing system is built for performing on-the-fly part inspection. Fuji equips each XY-gantry robot with two CCD cameras. This positioning allows the cameras to inspect each part after pickup. As the rotary placing head turns, the nozzles advance sequentially past the cameras where the appropriate camera inspects the part.

CCD Narrow: 0603(0201) to 4.0 x 4.0 mm, uses backlighting

CCD Wide: 4.0 x 4.0 mm to 20.0 x 20.0 mm, uses front- and backlighting.

Device Supply Units

The NP-153E-XL houses two detachable PFU-4Es (power feeder units), one at the front of the machine and one at the rear. Fuji incorporated the PFU-4Es in the machine's design to increase production rates as well as minimize changeover time. Each PFU features 40 slots that are capable of supplying up to 80 part types via 8 mm double channel feeders. Feeders are quickly loaded in one simple, press-in action. In addition, PFUs support the batch changeover of feeders. Simultaneous replacement of feeders occurs by simply unlocking a PFU, rolling it away, and replacing it with another PFU.

A tape-splicing tool and built-in waste tape cutter further support non-stop operation. The optional tape-splicing tool simplifies the splicing of paper and embossed tapes - all without removing the feeder or stopping the machine. In addition, the built-in waste tape cutter allows bin removal while the machine is running.
